DESIGN PROFESSIONALS, CONSTRUSTION MANAGERS and GENERAL CONTRACTORS: Effective July 18, 2008 New York State Labor Law Article 8, Section 220-H will require all LABORERS, WORKERS and ALLIED TRADES PERSONNEL to successfully complete a 10 Hour course in construction safety and health, approved by the United States Department of Labor's Occupation Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) This training is required for personnel engaged in construction, reconstruction, maintenance and/or repair activities on public work projects exceeding $250,000 in New York State.

10 Hour Construction Safety Training

This course gives an introduction to OSHA, the standards, general safety and health provisions, the general duty clause and requirements for competent persons. The course then continues with specific emphasis on the Electrical standard and Fall Protection. Topics that may also be covered as needed include Personal Protective Equipment, Tools-Hand and Power, Scaffolds, Cranes & Conveyors, Excavations, Stairways and Ladders. Upon successful completion of the course the student receives a 10 hour Construction Safety Training card which does not expire. Refresher training is recommended to maintain awareness of changes in OSHA regulations and basic competencies.

This course teaches participants the regulations and procedures to safely work in OSHA defined confined spaces. Information is designed to teach the worker to recognize hazards, health effects of exposure, testing procedures for atmospheric monitoring, and the responsibilities for confined space entrant, attendant and supervisor. Training meets OSHA 29 CFR 1910.146 requirements. Hands-on attendant and supervisor instruction are a component of the training that can be catered to the specific practices of our audience.

Federal safety standards stipulate that those engaged in site based activities demonstrate competence in health and safety matter specific to their task. Four hour a awareness presentations are offered to groups who need specialized training in areas such as the following; Hazard Communication, Personal Protective Equipment, Fire Protection, Fall Protection, Forklift, Electrical Safety, Ladder Safety, Hand Tools and General Work Practices.
